I wanted to make a simple dessert for a spaghetti dinner, and I had the idea to freeze a mandarin orange. The one with the peel was too hard even to cut, but the peeled one was delicious!
My mother's mother compared this somewhat healthy treat to an orange-flavored popsicle, and I agree. The texture is remarkably similar, just with a layer of citrus membrane on the outside.
a container that you can cover
(I used a plate covered with plastic wrap.)
a freezer
a knife (optional, for peeling)
mandarine oranges
sugar
Peel the oranges, separate their segments, and spread them evenly apart in your container.
Sprinkle sugar on top of the orange segments.
Cover the container.
Leave it in the freezer overnight.
People will eat the segments individually, so you probably don't need as many as you initially guess.
If you want something healthier and less sticky, this is perfectly fine (though different) without the sugar.
